5+ Fun Spring Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Children

Spring is such a refreshing time in your homeschool. It’s full of new life, warmer weather, and so many opportunities for hands-on learning. It’s the perfect season to lean into activities that get little hands busy and little minds engaged. And if you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for simple ways to keep your Preschooler learning without adding tons of extra work to your already full day. That’s why these Spring fine motor activities are a WIN!

In this post, I’m sharing some of our favorite Spring fine motor and sensory activities that are easy to set up, engaging for little learners, and perfect for this time of year. Whether you’re adding a quick activity to your morning routine or creating a full Spring-themed learning week, these ideas will help you bring a little extra joy (and learning!) into your homeschool days.

Spring means flowers are coming! One of my favorite ways to kick off our Spring fine motor activities is with potting plants. Now of course our preferred gardening is digging in the dirt outside. And if you’re able to do that with your little one, definitely take advantage of the opportunity! But it’s also nice to have an indoor gardening activity set up for kiddos to use – especially since Spring brings rain showers and sometimes wild weather.

That’s why we love a gardening sensory bin! To create it, I fill a bin with lots of dry black beans to look like soil. Then I grab little stems of faux flowers and gardening tools from Dollar Tree and add them to our bin for hours of “gardening” fun!

One of the very first sensory bin resources I created for LG were these handy little puzzles and matching mats. It was a great way for us to transition our free sensory bin play to academic practice! Using these mats LG practiced her fine motor skills while also working on matching, visual discrimination, and problem solving!

Every season, I stock up on seasonally-themed puffy stickers when they go on sale at Hobby Lobby. We use these stickers for SO many Spring fine motor activities! They make such fun manipulatives and add so much seasonal spark to our sensory bins.

Some of the ways we use our puffy stickers include color sorting, image sorting, pattern making, counting, and more!

Never underestimate the power of switching up an old faithful toy. One great way to bring back the excitement of an old toy is to toss the pieces in a sensory bin! My little ones have loved digging through their bins, hunting for puzzle pieces! And even when they’re finished with their sensory bin they have a renewed interest in the chunky puzzles. This makes prepping Spring fine motor activities extra useful!

What’s a post about Spring fine motor activities without a hands-on study of the plant life cycle?! One of my favorite things to include in our studies are these handy sensory bin matching mats. They make differentiating activities for your children a breeze, especially if you’re enjoying family-style learning for science! Simply place the pieces in a sensory bin and allow your littlest learners to explore while you study harder plant concepts with your older children!

I have so much fun setting up craft trays for my little ones, and this build-a-flower craft tray is the perfect addition to your collection of Spring fine motor activities! Never underestimate an inexpensive pack of classic construction paper, y’all! Grab a tray like this one from Dollar Tree. Add in some extra supplies like crayons, stickers, and glue. Then use construction paper to cut leaves, stems, and flower petals for your little ones to build their own flower creations!

I hope you and your kiddos enjoy these Spring fine motor activities with your littles! I’d love to hear which ones you use! In the meantime, I’d love to chat and get to know you better! Come hang out with us in some of our favorite places!
