Homeschool Preschool Routine for 3 Year Olds

One of our favorite things to do when we need to switch things up is to bust out our messy bin. Our messy bin serves two purposes. First, it stores all of LG’s favorite activities in one place. And second, it helps maintain my sanity by keeping all of these favorite activities out. of. her. reach. Ha! Today I’d like to share some ideas to make your own messy bin for preschoolers!

Prep Your Messy Bin

The first thing you need to do is find a bin that can hold all of your messy fun! Not really a fan of messy crafts? Go for a smaller bin so you don’t feel pressured to get tons of stuff. We enjoy messy activities so we grabbed a larger bin that fits in one of our overhead storage compartments. Thankfully, this keeps all of these activities out of reach! While these craft supplies are tons of fun when used together, they’re supplies I don’t let LG use without my supervision.

Next, fill ‘er up!! We have several go-to craft supplies that we try to keep fully stocked! Some of these supplies are… Do-a-Dot markers, KwikStix paint sticks, watercolor paints, shaving cream, stickers, glitter paint, finger paint, chalk, and stamps! We love using these supplies for open-ended activities. Most of them are also inexpensive and easy to find at places like Dollar Tree!

We also keep some more guided activities for when we need some super simple fun! The Target “dollar spot”, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels are our favorite places to find things like craft kids, paint sets, sticker sets, etc.!

Goodness, this bin has been such a lifesaver on so many occasions! When the 3 year old crankiness is setting in, or Momma is too tired to be creative, we bust this bin out for some messy fun. We only bring it out when I can give LG my full attention so when it’s out, she gets to choose which activities she would like to do. We don’t use it every day so when we do, it’s definitely seen as a special treat!
