One of my very favorite homeschool memories, and what REALLY helped me fall head over heals for homeschooling, is our season of homeschool Preschool. As a former public school teacher, I have always loved teaching children. There’s something so special about seeing them hit special academic milestones, hearing their exciting (and often super silly) stories, and enjoying their “ah-ha!” moments alongside them. But sharing all of those same experiences with your OWN children?? Magical.
Whether you’re just beginning to explore homeschool or you’ve known from the start this would be your family’s path, here are 5 reasons to love homeschool preschool today.

1. You’re Already Your Child’s Teacher
If your little one can sing the ABCs, count to ten, or recite their favorite Bible story, guess what? You’re already homeschooling! The preschool years are a natural extension of the teaching you’ve been doing since birth – reading aloud, singing songs, naming colors and shapes during play. Beginning homeschool preschool simply adds a bit more intention to what you’re already doing, helping you build a gentle rhythm for your days while fostering curiosity and growth.
2. You Get to Set the Pace
One of my favorite parts of homeschool preschool is the flexibility. Your child doesn’t have to master everything by a certain date or keep up with anyone else’s pace. You can pause to explore butterflies for two whole weeks if your little one is obsessed with them, or spend extra time on letter sounds if needed. Homeschool preschool gives your child the freedom to grow and develop at their own God-designed pace, and that’s such a gift.
3. Home Is the Best Place to Lay a Foundation
The preschool years are full of why’s and how’s, which are perfect opportunities to point your little one to the Lord. When you homeschool, spiritual growth becomes a natural part of your day. You can sing hymns during morning basket time, memorize simple Scripture, and talk about how God made the seasons while doing nature study in your backyard. These years are about more than ABCs – they’re about building a foundation of faith and family.
4. Learning Through Play Is Easier at Home
Here’s the good news: preschool doesn’t require a fancy classroom or expensive curriculum. It looks a lot like play because for our littlest learners, play is learning! At home, you can create a rich environment full of puzzles, sensory bins, picture books, and outdoor adventures. And guess what? Every time they sort colors, match shapes, or pretend with play dough, they’re building real academic skills in a way that’s developmentally appropriate.
5. You’re Creating Precious Memories
These years fly by faster than we think. Beginning homeschool preschool allows you to soak up this season together. By reading the same favorite books over and over, snuggling on the couch during morning time, exploring nature trails hand-in-hand – you are creating lasting memories and a special bond. Years from now, you won’t regret the time you spent planting seeds in your child’s heart, both academically and spiritually. These are the moments that matter.
